Healthy Watersheds
Water is a precious resource. The Conservation
Authority’s Healthy Watersheds Program is an initiative that provides
technical and financial assistance to improve and protect rural water
quality. The SCRCA actively seeks grants that will bring dollars into
the region to support the conservation efforts of landowners.
Over the last six years, the Conservation Authority has distributed more
than $1.4 million in grants to landowners which has resulted in 535
projects worth $5 million. The projects include such Best Management
Practices as streambank stabilization, tree planting, wetland creation,
livestock fencing from watercourses, well decommissioning, riparian
buffers and replacement of faulty septic systems.

Watershed Report Cards

The Watershed Report Cards have been prepared to help
watershed residents and agency staff and directors evaluate the
environmental health of the region. The report provides a summary of
existing monitoring programs, and evaluates key indicators based on
provincial standards for watershed health.
