Muffins For Granny (7:00PM)
Sarnia Public Library Auditorium
Saturday, January 17,2009 7pm
Free Admission
A film about Native Residential Schools
In “Muffins for Granny”, McLaren personalizes the sad history of Canada’s residential schools by delving into the experience of her Ojibway grandmother who was a student at one of these schools. In trying to understand her grandmother’s sadness, McLaren interviews seven First Nations Elders, all of whom were also residential school students. Though never sentimental or maudlin, this is a touching film, both brave and loving. When those who have been deeply hurt have the courage to share their grief, and others care enough to listen with their hearts, then understanding dawns, and healing can begin. 88min.
