It’s morning, the sun is shining, there’s a cool breeze in the air and your speeding down the track trying pass a co worker for bragging rights. There is kart racing in Sarnia and its a hell of a lot of fun. F1 Kart Racing is located at the Hiawatha Complex out on London Line. The Karts are fast, they go up to 75 kilometers an hour if you had a long straight away. The course at Hiawatha is a road course, lots of twist and turns on this short track.

Getting ready to hit the course did not take long and the staff was helpful and informative. They offered a number of tips on the correct way to drive. Once your all suited up with a helmet and suit, you are on your way for a practice run. Getting used to how the kart feels and turns. No power steering with these speed machines but you get used to it. Turning around a corner is a different story though, hit the brake at the wrong or right time depending on your perspective and your back end will start to slide. This can be turned into an advantage for expert drivers but for a novice like myself I made a conscious decision at first to make sure to take it slow and acclimate to the way the kart handles.

After a couple of practice laps you start to get the hang of it. Being weary of the speed of the kart starts to dissipate and a little rush of adrenaline kicks in when you hit the gas just a little harder around that next corner going into the straight away. By the time you are on your second 10 lap race its all about getting around the next corner quickly and hitting the straight away as fast as possible. The rates are quite affordable even for a family looking for something new to try with the kids. They also have racing leagues during the summer, for both adults and children.
